Member of the Month - June 2025

Gia Ahn!

Age: 42
The first time I got started in figure skating- it was sometime after watching Kristy Yamaguchi win gold at the 1992 Olympics but before Oksana Baiul won the gold at the 1994 Olympics. Figure skating was on t.v. a lot back then. The second time I got started in figure skating was sometime in 2023 when I joined the Adults Jumps and Spins class in the Learn To Skate program. I’m currently enrolled in the axel/double jumps class.

My favorite figure skating moves are figures! Tracing the 8 is very satisfying; it stimulates my autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) while I work my extension, breathing, and edge control. It’s also fun to pretend I’m a planet rotating around the sun as I trace my circles.

My figure skating goals? Short term goal is to land a fully rotated axel and pass my adult gold skating skills test. Long term: I’d love to land a double axel one day. If we get bionic knees or something in the near future I can probably move that goalpost even further though - wouldn’t that be nice?

Congratulations to our member of the month - Gia Ahn!
